Generative Extend
A tool that analyzes existing footage and generates additional frames to extend the duration of a clip.
Generative Extend is an AI-driven tool that analyzes existing footage and generates additional frames to extend the duration of a clip. Unlike traditional methods that involve slowing down footage or looping frames, this tool intelligently creates new frames based on the context of the original video. The focus here is on extending or evolving existing content rather than generating something entirely new.
Available in Premier Pro (beta) and powered by Adobe Firefly’s AI technology, Generative Extend studies the movement, colors, and textures in a clip, then synthesizes new frames that match seamlessly. Editors can select a clip, specify the desired extension duration, and let the AI generate additional content. This means no awkward jumps or unnatural transitions - just smooth, visually consistent footage. Although higher resolution will soon be supported, keep note that there are still some limitations to be aware of. Currently, you can only extend media within the following parameters:
Resolutions of 1920x1080 or 1280x720
16:9 aspect ratio
Frame rates between 12 and 30 fps
8-bit, SDR (Standard Dynamic Range)
Generative Extend is just the baby step of AI-driven editing capabilities within Premiere Pro (beta). As AI continues to evolve, we can expect even more powerful tools that automate tedious tasks while enhancing creative control.
